Look for the extraordinary in the ordinary

Often, it seems as if the energetic people, grand events and popular things grab our attention and make us believe that they are the chief elements in making our lives extraordinary.
It is all too easy, I suppose, for us to lose our balance, our bearings and our way as we meander through our lives as we manage a mass of emotions that come with our daily responsibilities and occurrences. Grand functions, special events and people whose vibrant personalities perk us up do add some excitement in our mundane existence.
That isn’t all bad, of course, but we shouldn’t depend on those out-of-the-ordinary events and exuberant personalities to bring balance, meaning, fulfillment and passion to our lives. They can be fleeting and superficial.
We can find the elements that make for an extraordinary life interwoven in the commonplace circumstances, the daily responsibilities and the problems that linger too long.
(a) The simple, quiet moments that find their way into a busy day bring a joy that does not come from a major event at the end of months of anticipation.

(b) An uninterrupted hour or two with a good friend over tea or coffee, sharing our deepest feelings and advice to deal with our individual issues provides a level of peace we don’t get from sitting in a crowded room, dropping the impersonal “Hi, how are you?”.

(c) An afternoon spent watching children, as they engage in their innocent shenanigans can be more stimulating that watching a superstar perform.

)d) The early dawn hours offers deeper reflection and more inspiration than we can expect when we are trying to be creative while juggling multiple other non-creative tasks.
Look past the big things – the once-a-year events, the people who pop in occasionally, brimming with excitement. Look into your daily life, the usual things, the normal happenings, the commonplace tasks, the ordinary hassles. That is where you will find clues to the balance, the meaning, the fulfillment, the joy and the passion you need for your life to be extraordinary.
Whenever you feel as if things are just too ho-hum, to0 ordinary, you don’t have to look too far and for too long. Look at the ordinariness of your life. Look and you will find the extraordinary.
